About Saint Maximilian Kolbe
Saint Maximilian Kolbe (1894–1941) was a Polish Franciscan friar, missionary, and Catholic priest renowned for his unwavering faith, devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary, and extraordinary act of self-sacrifice during World War II. Imprisoned at Auschwitz concentration camp, he voluntarily offered his own life in place of another prisoner who had been selected to die. His heroic witness of Christian charity has made him a powerful symbol of courage, compassion, and unconditional love.
Canonized by Pope John Paul II in 1982, Saint Maximilian Kolbe is honored as the Martyr of Charity and is revered by Catholics around the world.
